Our Founder
Diti founded Théla after years of experiencing and practising traditional Indian crafts. She has spent much of her career inside crafting communities. She teaches, designs curriculums, runs workshops, and crochets.
Coming face to face with the scale of plastic waste became a new challenge — What could crafting do with a material the world had given up on? The result is a surprise that keeps growing.
Our Products
Each bag begins as discarded plastic — carry bags, food wrappers, packaging film. The plastic is sorted by hand, cleaned, cut, and woven on traditional looms. No virgin materials. No industrial processing. Just skill, colour and time.
The results are bold, tactile and functional. They are made to start conversations, be used every day and kept for years.
Why Plastic?
This is a question we get asked a lot. Why plastic? Indeed, the way crafting transforms it is pure magic, our products are a testament to this. The feel, the colours!
But the simple answer is because it is everywhere and going nowhere. Because plastic is a precious, fascinating material and we throw it away like nothing. Because human creativity and traditions can give it back its value.
Beyond
Théla goes beyond being an accessories brand. We focus on crafting and plastic waste as a valuable raw material, but there is more. We’re always working on new projects and collaborations. Diti works in sustainability education, running creative workshops on reuse and mindful living for children and adults, and developing curriculums for schools.
The goal is always the same: to use crafting to change how people see materials and what we consider waste.
